Brian Balukonis

Brian Balukonis retired from Raytheon Company in 2018 after a 32+ year career where he worked as the Solid Waste Process Owner for the Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) business segment in Tewksbury, Mass. As the zero waste Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Raytheon, he focused on zero waste planning and helped develop a unique resource management program which led to six Massachusetts sites achieving zero waste certification (one Platinum and five Gold). He also contributed to the establishment of the Enterprise 5-year sustainability goals that focused on zero waste and was their core environmental regulatory compliance specialist.

His unique and innovative programs have been recognized by many organizations including the EPA and MA DEP. Recognitions have included WasteWise-Partner of Year, WasteWise-Recycling in the Workplace, MA DEP-Innovative Reduction Leadership, MassRecycle-Large Business Recycler and Associated Industries of Massachusetts (AIM)-Sustainability. He is a Nationally recognized speaker on zero waste.

Brian is a founding member of the Town of Littleton Sustainability Committee, which was established in 2013. He introduced the concept of zero waste to the town by establishing the town’s first zero waste event in 2014. Based on it`s success, it is now an annual event. He has assisted and volunteered to help other towns establish similar events. He graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from North Adams State College.
