USGBC recently released global economic recovery strategy in response to the ongoing impacts of COVID-19. The plan outlines a series of actions and priorities that will support the global recovery effort and leverage the power of our community to shape a healthier future for all.

To support this effort and encourage market adoption, earlier today GBCI announced that it launched two TRUE pilot credits. Pilot credits are a group of credits not in the current version of the TRUE Rating System, and which are designed to test new innovative zero waste strategies and/or facilitate the introduction of new credits. Pilot credits can be used in lieu of any existing TRUE credit (worth the same points as the pilot credit) in the TRUE Rating System. These credits are awarded based on project teams attempting and achieving the credit requirements. The credits may change as feedback is received.

TRUE Safety First Pilot Credit

The TRUE Safety First Pilot Credit promotes the health and safety of personnel associated with solid waste management at TRUE facilities. Although this credit has been launched in response to the current pandemic, the intent of the credit is to understand and eliminate adverse health impacts associated with solid waste management activities and to promote worker health and safety in the long term. The requirements outlined in the credit are best practices that facilities should consider implementing at any time (not restricted to episodic events such as the COVID-19 pandemic) to promote health and safety of their personnel.  Please see the Pilot Credit Language in the Resources section of the TRUE website for more details on requirements.

TRUE Advisor Pilot Credit

In our current environment, it is also important that learning continues and is recognized. We understand that many of you are looking to gain new skills and adding credentials which will help us build a resilient and healthy future for all. GBCI’s TRUE Advisor certificate program provides a comprehensive curriculum for the individual who wants to learn about zero waste, and support businesses in implementing zero waste initiatives and pursuing TRUE certification.

To further support and encourage this learning, GBCI is introducing a pilot credit to recognize projects that have TRUE Advisors as principal participant(s) of their project team. Please see the Pilot Credit Language in the Resources section of the TRUE website for more details on requirements.

Please contact GBCI at [email protected] with any questions on these pilot credits.
