Project Overview:

The Zero Waste Program at GCDC Purchaser Phase One, LLC demonstrates environmental leadership by prioritizing sustainability and minimizing landfill contributions. A cornerstone of this program is onsite composting, which diverts food scraps, paper towels, and compostable materials from waste streams. This composting initiative is further supported by a partnership with a local store, which donates food scraps to be composted. The compost produced supports a small onsite vegetable garden, offering seasonal fresh produce for employees while reinforcing the facility’s commitment to circular practices. These green features provide a hands-on sustainability experience, making waste reduction tangible and engaging for the workforce.

To further reduce environmental impact, the program includes battery recycling stations accessible to both employees and visitors, ensuring safe disposal of single-use and rechargeable batteries. The data center also achieves zero hazardous waste generation and storage by carefully selecting vendors, materials, and maintenance procedures that eliminate the need for hazardous chemicals. This strategic sourcing and operations model not only ensures regulatory compliance but also eliminates the risks and costs associated with hazardous waste handling.

The program encourages a culture of reuse by eliminating disposable service ware. Employees are provided with reusable cups, plates, and silverware, significantly reducing single-use plastic and packaging waste. Regular sustainability training reinforces zero waste practices and foster participation. Altogether, the program exemplifies how our data center can operate efficiently while actively protecting the environment and inspiring sustainable behaviors across our community.
