Randa Apparel & Accessories Ontario Distribution Center
Randa Apparel & Accessories (Randa) Ontario Distribution Center (DC) is a key regional distribution hub for apparel, accessories, and footwear. This facility supports Randa's broader zero-waste-to-landfill and circularity goals. Sustainability priorities for the DC include actively avoiding waste, reusing materials, expanding recycling and composting programs, and reducing packaging impacts through collaboration with external partners, and associates.
Key initiatives include a "full carton in, full carton out" approach; the reuse of cartons, cardboard inserts, pallets, and polybags; cardboard and plastic baling programs; and organics collection for composting. The facility has also reduced paper use through paperless customer service, logistics workflows, double-sided printing, and reusable alternatives to single-use products. Additional innovations include daylighting through skylights, energy-efficient LED lighting, and motion-sensor controls that help reduce both energy consumption and waste associated with lighting maintenance. Consistent waste audits and "highest and best use" reviews also help identify opportunities to prevent waste and keep materials in productive use.
Associate engagement is central to the site's success, with associates supporting waste audits, training activities, continuous improvement programs, Earth Day cleanups, and recognition initiatives that encourage participation in waste reduction efforts. These efforts have increased material reuse and recycling, diverted organic waste from landfills, and strengthened circular practices through closed-loop pallet reuse and packaging reuse programs. The Ontario DC's Gold achievement reflects ongoing collaboration and disciplined waste-reduction practices that support Randa’s broader sustainability priorities.
