Project Overview

JLG Industries, an Oshkosh Corporation company, is committed to sustainable manufacturing, resource conservation, and environmental stewardship. At its 1 JLG Drive facility in McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania, JLG implemented innovative waste reduction strategies supporting its corporate zero-waste policy of achieving at least 90% landfill diversion. Key initiatives include recycling wood pallets and crates into mulch and animal bedding, upcycling manufacturing materials into functional tools and equipment, and improving waste segregation through standardized collection and labeling. By tracking waste generation, disposal expenses, and recycling rebates, the facility identifies opportunities to reduce costs, maximize material recovery, and continuously improve environmental performance.

Team Member engagement has been essential to the project's success. Team Members participate in waste assessments, recycling improvements, annual electronic waste collection events, and Earth Day activities. Both new and existing Team Members are encouraged to identify waste reduction opportunities and contribute innovative ideas. These efforts promote environmental awareness, reduce landfill disposal, conserve natural resources, and strengthen a culture of continuous improvement.

JLG's commitment extends beyond manufacturing through Oshkosh Corporation's annual Good2Give Back Month, which supports roadside cleanups, food assistance programs, and animal rescue organizations. Oshkosh Team Members have contributed more than 20,000 volunteer hours globally. Achieving TRUE Zero Waste Gold certification makes 1 JLG Drive the fourth Access Segment facility to earn TRUE certification, demonstrating JLG's commitment to responsible manufacturing and establishing best practices that can be shared across other facilities.

Achieving TRUE Zero Waste Gold certification was important to JLG Industries because it provides independent recognition of our commitment to reducing landfill waste, conserving resources, and integrating sustainable practices into everyday manufacturing operations. The certification process helped strengthen existing recycling and reuse programs, identify new waste reduction opportunities, improve financial accountability, and increase Team Member engagement.

As the fourth Access Segment facility to achieve TRUE certification, 1 JLG Drive demonstrates that zero-waste practices can be successfully integrated into manufacturing while supporting operational efficiency and environmental responsibility. This achievement reinforces JLG's culture of continuous improvement, recognizes the collective efforts of our Team Members, and establishes a foundation for expanding successful zero-waste strategies across other JLG facilities.
