Project Overview

As part of our manufacturing operations, Nu-Pure has invested in an in-house PET recycling system that enables production waste to be reprocessed and returned directly into our manufacturing stream. Through this initiative, more than 70 tonnes of PET plastic are recovered annually, significantly reducing the volume of material sent off-site for further processing and minimising the environmental impacts associated with transportation and external recycling activities.

In support of our sustainable procurement strategy, Nu-Pure purchases 100% recycled PET (rPET) for use across our entire bottled water portfolio. Compared with virgin PET, recycled PET delivers a substantially lower environmental footprint while supporting Australia's circular economy. By working closely with local recycling partners, we are able to divert PET waste that cannot be recycled in-house, have it reprocessed into food-grade recycled resin, and purchase this material back for use in new bottles. This closed-loop approach helps maximise resource recovery and minimise waste generation.

To embed these principles throughout the organisation, we launched our landfill diversion program with a company-wide communication outlining our sustainability objectives and the role every employee would play in achieving them. Comprehensive training materials were then developed to educate production teams on correct waste segregation practices, the importance of landfill diversion and circularity, and opportunities within our manufacturing processes to recover valuable materials that would otherwise be disposed of as waste.
