In 2010, he became the first corporate manager of sustainability for Kum & Go. He led them in becoming the only convenience store chain in the world certified in the LEED Volume Program for green building (over 80 stores). Adam also led their design and roll-out of the first at-the-pump recycling program for customers in three major cities and across Colorado (over 100 stores). He received his Lean-Six Sigma Green Belt training and helped Kum & Go significantly improve energy, waste, and water efficiency while reducing costs through tracking, retrofits, and continuous improvement processes. During his tenure at Kum & Go, Adam authored his first book, Stress-Free Sustainability, and began teaching a CSR & Sustainability course for evening MBA students at the University of Iowa.

Adam left Kum & Go in 2014 to begin consulting and launch a new industry association, the Iowa Sustainable Business Forum (ISBF). Today, he is the ISBF Executive Director, helping connect Iowa businesses to continuously improve practices that positively impact people, planet, and profits. In 2018, he authored his second book, Sustainable Business in Iowa: How Leading Companies Profit from Environmental and Social Responsibility. It is practical road map for any company to follow, with for-profit Iowa business case studies supporting every chapter and stage of development. Today, Adam lives in Des Moines, Iowa with his wife, Oxana, and speaks publicly to empower sustainable professionals with the mindset, framework, strategies, and tools they need to change the world.

Adam grew up in southeast Iowa on a farm near Richland. In high school, he was an All-Conference basketball player and All-State football player and high jumper. In college, he earned his BA in Human Services with an emphasis in outdoor education, minors in business and environmental studies, and certificates in leadership and global health. He led outdoor adventure trips and taught rock climbing until graduation, then traveled the world as an environmental educator and leadership trainer, living and working in seven countries on four continents. He returned to Iowa and earned his Green MBA along with many professional trainings and certifications, including: LEED-AP, LCA Manager Certificate, Global Reporting Initiative 4.0, The Natural Step USA: Level 1 & 2, and Wilderness Steward. Before working at Kum & Go, Adam founded a grassroots sustainability non-profit, Urban Ambassadors where he helped launch dozens of projects, including: an annual local foods conference to fight hunger, a micro-finance program for women in poverty, and a free online video-training for teachers planning school gardens.
