Michael LaRussa

Zero waste expertise via multiple perspectives: municipal, hauler, corporate sustainability, and product stewardship. Currently, Michael oversees Western Region for Mattress Recycling Council (MRC), responsible for maintaining and expanding the Bye Bye Mattress Program in California, and launching the program in Oregon. The Bye Bye Mattress Program has recycled more than 8 million mattresses in California since its inception in 2016. The Program offers no-cost, environmentally friendly alternatives disposing of old mattresses through local collection sites, public events and collaborations with retailers and solid waste providers. Previously, Michael served as Sustainability Program Manager for JLL, helping facilities management clients achieve their sustainability and cost reduction goals via zero waste assessments, strategy and goal development, and initiative design and implementation. Michael also worked for Waste Management as Contract Compliance Manager, overseeing franchise agreement reporting and outreach.
